KNCU Awarded Presidential Citation for Archival Service
The Korean
National Commission for UNESCO (Secretary General Kwangho Kim) was awarded the Presidential
Citation for Organizations at the 2017 Award Ceremony for Meritorious Archival
Service held at the Presidential Archives in Sejong City on Feb. 8.
The KNCU was cited
for its significant contribution to the establishment of the International Centre
for Documentary Heritage in Cheongju, in collaboration with the National
Archives and Cheongju City, and its active engagement in an Official
Development Assistance (ODA) project to help developing countries discover and
preserve their documentary heritage by organizing Memory of the World Regional
Training Workshops. Also recognized was the KNCU’s role in raising awareness of
documentary heritage in ODA-recipient countries, while boosting the Republic of
Korea’s profile in global society.
Commenting upon
the citation, Secretary-General Kwangho Kim said, “The KNCU will continue its
efforts to preserve Korean documentary heritage and further develop archival
culture by playing an active part in UNESCO’s Memory of World Programme.”
The Awards for Meritorious Archival Service are given annually by the National Archives, part of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, to civilians, government officials and organizations that have contributed to the improvement of the archival administration system.
